Until the past couple of years, balms such as the ones discussed on this page were primarily used to address rough patches of skin or other problem spots, mostly on the body and lips but sometimes on the face as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

More recently, a trend has developed where balms of various sorts are used as cosmetics on the face, to provide a glowy hydrated look.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although this Boomstick has a pretty clean ingredients list and is convenient for use on the go, I found the product to be on the hard side and thus a little bit frustrating to use.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also don’t feel that olive oil is my favorite moisturizer in terms of its effects on my skin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The description of this product reads, “Soothe, soften and moisturize dry skin on your face, lips, cuticles, elbows, or anywhere. This product has a soft hydrating texture that seems very close to the Jones Road Miracle Balm but is much more reasonably priced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The main negative in my opinion is the presence of the fruity “natural flavor” that Burt’s Bees uses in so many of its products.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I have smelled and tasted much worse things in cosmetics products than the Burt’s Bees natural fragrance, I still would have preferred them to have left it out entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n

The additional fragrance ingredients of limonene and linalool also are included.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ingredients list also includes soybean oil and citric acid, which are two ingredients that I avoid in foods and don’t especially want in my cosmetics either.<\/span><\/p>\n

The affordable price of the product compared to some of its competitors is a definite plus though.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think that the ingredients sound great to me and that the product does feel very good.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It has not caused any irritation and seems to have been helpful for my dry skin issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think that this product could be a good option for those who want to experiment with trying out a balmy and glowy makeup look but are not sure that they will be able to tolerate the Jones Road Miracle Balm (or who just don’t want to pay Jones Road prices).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Dr. Bronner’s Magic Balm is also available in an Arnica-Menthol formula that is stated as being intended for use on sore muscles and achy joints.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ingredient list consists of organic avocado oil, organic coconut oil, organic beeswax, organic mentha arvensis (peppermint) oil, organic olive oil, organic camphor oil, organic menthol crystals, organic jojoba oil, organic hemp seed oil, organic arnica montana oil, organic mentha piperita oil, and tocopherol.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think that sounds like a product with some good potential to be helpful and plan to give it a try soon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although this product has a longer ingredient list than most of the other balms discussed on this page, EWG is not suggesting that any of the ingredients are problematic and the product has felt quite clean to me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I used it on my hands most nights last winter and feel that it was very helpful to them and to other dry areas on my body.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though I did not use it much on my facial skin, I think that it feels clean enough that I would be willing to do that if the other moisturizing products that I was using were not working for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

I finished up most of a jar, but then felt that at about six months after opening the product started to smell a bit rancid to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not really a surprise considering that the main ingredient other than water is sunflower seed oil, which doesn’t last all that long if preservatives such as essential oils are not being used with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

I suggest using this product up quickly once it is opened (and maybe being prepared to return it if it doesn’t smell good when it is first opened up).<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a moderately soft, “miracle balm” type product that can be used both as a cosmetic and for treating dry skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

I haven’t felt like it would be a great idea for me to use this on my delicate facial skin, but it does not seem to have irritated the skin on my body at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product is available in a natural shade (with just a very small amount of color and mica) and in a range of tinted shades.<\/span><\/p>\n

While I like the way that the product looks on me, I have found that it invariably causes my skin to itch and feel a little uncomfortable starting about 15-30 minutes after I put it on, and that this tends to last until I wash my face.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think that I likely am sensitive or allergic to one or more of the essential oils in the product, but maybe it instead is to one of the other ingredients.<\/span><\/p>\n

This exact same thing happens to me with the Jones Road What The Foundation and Shimmer Face Oil products, and all of these do contain essential oils. All the other Jones Road products have been fine for me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the foundation, I have managed to address the problem successfully by applying a non-silicone primer (such as the Vapour Gentle Illuminating Primer) prior to putting on the product.<\/span><\/p>\n

Putting on a primer prior to applying a balm like this does not make as much sense to me as using it prior to applying a foundation though.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I personally think that the Miracle Balm looks nice on me and on other people, it seems to be a rather controversial product even among those who are able to tolerate it.<\/span><\/p>\n

While many users say that Miracle Balm is their favorite makeup product of all time and that they have purchased multiple shades, others complain that they do not like the glossy look on their cheeks that this product gives to them and that the sticky feeling of the product is annoying to them (especially when their long hair gets stuck in it).<\/span><\/p>\n

An odd thing about this product is that (outside of the Jones Road kits) it is sold only in very large tubs, giving the impression that using large amounts of the product on the face and body is appropriate.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m having a hard time seeing myself use up a container that large even if my skin were not sensitive to it, since I think it looks better when I use only a very small amount of it.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have heard Jones Road founder Bobbi Brown say that manufacturing small containers of the product is almost as expensive as manufacturing large ones, and that this is why the container size is so large.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, a large container like that is totally impractical for use on the go, which is when I think that I would get the most use out of the product.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, some of the product could be transferred into a smaller jar to keep in my purse, but I am not usually motivated or organized enough to do things like that even when I am enthusiastic about the product.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although it contains rosa canina seed oil and chamomile extract, there are no essential oils. I have found the scent to be basically non-existent and certainly unobjectionable, and my skin has done fine with this product.<\/span><\/p>\n

Probably because of the use of corn starch as the second ingredient, the product feels somewhat less greasy than some of the other balms that I have tried.<\/span><\/p>\n
