The serums listed here focus on providing hydration in the form of ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or squalane.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many also include additional nourishing ingredients such as ceramides or niacinamide.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most can be appropriately used by people with any kind of skin type, including those with oily skin and acne.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The hydrating serums that I have looked at tend to have ingredients lists that – at least according to EWG standards – seem to be pretty clean.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because most of these serums do not contain substantial amounts of oil, most people may find it useful to use some kind of additional moisturizng product (such as a cream moisturizer or a face oil) on top of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some hydrating serums include additional ingredients that are supposed to help to minimize the signs of aging, and those are discussed on the Revitalizing Serums<\/strong><\/a> page of this website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The products listed on the Day Creams<\/strong><\/a> pages of this website all have substantial amounts of hydrators in them as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because my own skin is very dry and is starting to experience issues associated with aging, I have tended to focus more on those other kinds of products and less on the hydrating serums so far.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have used a few hydrating serums and hope to try out more in the future, though.<\/span><\/p>\n

The description of this product on the Aveda website reads, “Keep hydrated for dewy supple skin. This product contains several different kinds of natural fragrance and has a noticeable scent. I don’t personally feel that a serum like this needs to be scented, but at least this one at least does have natural rather than synthetic fragrance.<\/span><\/p>\n

It also contains an unnecessary green coloring agent.<\/span><\/p>\n

I tried a small sample of this product. I didn’t find that it irritated my skin, but also didn’t feel inclined to consider buying a larger bottle.<\/span><\/p>\n

The description of this product on the Beautycounter website reads, “Packed with two forms of hyaluronic acid, plus vitamins C and E, this intensely moisturizing serum, without mineral oil or synthetic fragrance, delivers a boost of lasting hydration and antioxidant protection. With continued use, skin will feel firmer and look brighter with a more even tone. Helps minimize the appearance of fine lines. Lightweight, fluid texture offers easy layering.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The product does contain (as Drunk Elephant would put it) a “drying alcohol,” but it is toward the bottom of the ingredients list and thus may not be playing much of a role in the product.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product also includes a small amount of salicylic acid, which makes me think that it is primarily intended for people with acne issues.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That has made me hesitant to buy this product since it does not seem to be specifically intended for me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, I have used a number of other Beautycounter Countermatch products, all of which include hydrators like hyaluronic acid. I have been happy with all of them (and actually with almost all of Beautycounter’s skincare products).<\/span><\/p>\n

My hope is that this is a good product too, therefore.<\/span><\/p>\n

I had a good experience with a small bottle of this product. It felt hydrating to my face without appearing to annoy my skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

Considering that the full-size product comes in a larger bottle than some of its competitors, the price per ounce is not out of line.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I am not sure that I ever will buy this product again, I like it enough that I likely would eventually use it up if I happened to have a bottle sitting around.<\/span><\/p>\n

This product was introduced in early 2022. It seems to me similar in concept and ingredients to the popular Honest Hydrogel Cream,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0but in a more concentrated serum form.<\/span><\/p>\n

The copy on the Honest website reads, “This serum is designed to draw + hold moisture in the skin thanks to 3 types of hyaluronic acid with different molecular weights for multi-depth hydration. Formulated with kiwi seed oil for its natural sources of essential fatty acids to help support the skin barrier, rambutan peel extract to provide extra hydration, and Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF) to help the outer layer of the skin stay hydrated. Designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines through hydration, our skin-quenching serum provides plumping moisture to skin and brings cushiony, bouncy skin vibes!”<\/span><\/p>\n

Like the Honest Hydrogel cream, this serum includes hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate. This is a particularly small particle that supposedly works better due to deeper penetration of the skin, but that some people also say has the potential of being irritating to the skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have not found either the Honest Hydrogel cream or this serum to be irritating to my skin at all, though.<\/span><\/p>\n

In general, I think the ingredients list for this product looks quite good to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

The one thing that I do see, though, is that this product seems to contain fewer preservatives than some of the competitive products. <\/span><\/p>\n

I feel that the bottle that I purchased feels fine to me even after several months, but I still would suggest buying it from somewhere the it could be returned if it feels problematic when it is opened and then using it up fairly quickly.<\/span><\/p>\n

I probably will buy this again unless I find another product that I like better.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally synthesized by the skin, the role of which is to maintain the hydration of the skin and preserve its smooth and plump appearance. The Living Clean in a Dirty World shopping website is designed to provide guidance to those seeking out products that are relatively low in toxicity and that provide generally positive user experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the skincare and makeup sections have a particular focus on products appropriate for women who are in their 40’s or beyond, the information provided may be useful for other people as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

The products are curated by Lisa Petrison,<\/strong><\/a> who has been focused on helping people to improve their health by avoiding toxicity since 2008 and who heads the Paradigm Change organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her\u00a0Living Clean in a Dirty World blog site<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0discusses a variety of topics of relevance to those who are working to pursue a more natural lifestyle with less exposure to harmful toxicity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa is the author of several books, including\u00a0A Beginner’s Guide to Mold Avoidance<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(co-written with Erik Johnson).<\/span><\/p>\n

She also runs the Paradigm Change website<\/strong><\/a> (focusing on issues related to toxic mold illness) and the Mold Avoiders Facebook group<\/strong><\/a> (designed for the discussion of all topics of interest to those pursuing the mold avoidance approach described in the “Beginner’s Guide” book).<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa was born in August 1964 and has yet to try cosmetic surgery, Botox or other cosmetic treatments requiring interactions with a physician, or beauty products containing retinoids.<\/span><\/p>\n

In her former life, Lisa worked as a business school professor, as a marketing consultant to a variety of large companies, and as a reporter covering the advertising industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

She holds a Ph.D. in marketing and social psychology from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University as well as B.S.\/M.S. degrees from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern.<\/span><\/p>\n
