The products on this page are designed to provide a sheer glow to the face, through the use of shimmery highlighting materials suspended in an oil or gel formula.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of these products also include skincare ingredients, which may be helpful for some people but not necessarily appropriate for everyone’s skin issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

The products may be used in a number of different ways, including underneath foundation; on top of foundation; mixed with foundation; or on their own without any foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, they may be used all over the face to provide a general glow or just in certain places as a highlighter.<\/span><\/p>\n

They also may be used on the shoulders or on other areas of the body to create a mild shimmery glow.<\/span><\/p>\n

This product consists of a slightly thick, translucent oil with shine and sparkle from both mica and diamond dust.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product contains a small amount of tiny glittery particles that I suppose are the diamonds. I think the effect is pretty but reasonably subtle, with potential for day as well as evening use.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product feels nice on my skin and has not caused any noticeable irritation.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think this works well as a first layer when wearing either a very light foundation or a stick foundation\u00a0 used as spot coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also might use this as a highlighter on top of any other makeup that I might be wearing since the sparkle from the diamonds is especially pretty.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a thick translucent enhanced oil product with just a very slight amount of sheen from the mica.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I think that it works well on its own or as a base for light foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also can see mixing it with a foundation to thin it out a bit and to give a lower-coverage look.<\/span><\/p>\n

It feels good on my skin and hasn’t caused any irritation.<\/span><\/p>\n

This liquid highlighter is available in three shades – Nova (“soft gold”), Atomic (“soft pink pearl”) and Astrid (“soft rose gold”).<\/span><\/p>\n

I tried the Nova shade.<\/span><\/p>\n

Compared to most of the other liquid highlighters that I have used, this one is more densely pigmented and with much more of an obvious golden shimmer.<\/span><\/p>\n

I personally feel that I need to use this highlighter extremely sparingly since otherwise the golden color is much too much for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wearing this product under a foundation with more coverage also tones the shine down enough to make it wearable for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even then, I probably would only use it for a special party or other evening event.<\/span><\/p>\n

The perplexing thing for me is that the pump container only seems to be willing to dispense a pretty generous squirt of the product rather than just the small drop that I am wanting to use. I therefore end up washing much more of this product down my sink drain than ends up on my face.<\/span><\/p>\n

Still, provided that I am sparing enough with the product, it looks very pretty on me.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also personally think that it’s a good thing that it quickly dries down to the point where it feels more like a foundation and less like a face oil on my skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I have tried using this product on my eyelids, I feel that it is a little irritating when used in that way. That is too bad since it otherwise does look nice on them.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have not found that my skin has been irritated as a result of using this product on the rest of my face though.<\/span><\/p>\n

This product (introduced in 2022) is available in four shades – Pink Opal (“a light pink with fine opalescent shimmer”), Cool Rose (“a cool rosy pink with fine monochromatic shimmer”), Midas (“a medium gold with a fine monochromatic shimmer”), and Bronze (“a medium bronze with fine gold and silver shimmer”).<\/span><\/p>\n

This product is a little more opaque than some of the shimmer oils mentioned on this page, but not nearly as much so as the Ilia product.<\/span><\/p>\n

I tried the Cool Rose color and thought that (even though it is not an ideal color for me) it applied nicely and looked pretty on me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, it also caused significant itching of my skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

This has happened with other Jones Road products (including the What The Foundation and Miracle Balms) as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think that the issue is that the company is including substantial amounts of essential oils in the products as preservatives and that this is causing irritation to my skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

I don’t consider this to be a reason that people whose facial skin is able to tolerate essential oils should avoid this product, though.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from the essential oils and the other natural fragrance ingredients, it looks pretty clean to me and I would use it if my own very sensitive skin were not bothered by it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although Live Tinted seems to have as its primary focus people with darker skin tones than I do, I feel that the Dawn shade has worked quite well for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has just a little color and a moderate amount of shimmer, and I think that it looks really nice on my skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve swatched both of these products at Sephora and have used the Virtual shade at home.<\/span><\/p>\n

I feel that the base is more opaque than is the case with some of these other shimmer oils but that it looks pretty on me.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main issue with the ingredients list is that the product contains unspecified fragrance and that I have not been able to get confirmation from the company that synthetic fragrance is not used.<\/span><\/p>\n

The products are curated by Lisa Petrison,<\/strong><\/a> who has been focused on helping people to improve their health by avoiding toxicity since 2008 and who heads the Paradigm Change organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her\u00a0Living Clean in a Dirty World blog site<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0discusses a variety of topics of relevance to those who are working to pursue a more natural lifestyle with less exposure to harmful toxicity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa is the author of several books, including\u00a0A Beginner’s Guide to Mold Avoidance<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(co-written with Erik Johnson).<\/span><\/p>\n
