My skin is dry enough that it needs some good moisture during the day, but it’s important that the day moisturizers that I use also work well with any makeup that I might choose to wear.<\/span><\/p>\n

I therefore usually use products that include squalane or sodium hyaluronate during the daytime, since these kinds of hydrators usually put a slightly tacky coating on my skin that works well for me under makeup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even heavier creams can work fine as day creams if they put this kind of surface on my skin, in my experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

While some of the products listed on this page are quite expensive, I have not found it necessary to spend a great deal of money to obtain products that work well as daytime moisturizers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Honest Hydrogel cream has been excellent for me in all respects (including having a clean ingredients list) and costs only $20, for instance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the products on this page do not include any essential oils or processed fragrances, in some cases they do include botanical extracts that give them a very mild scent.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have found this product to be simple and clean, without any fragrance or irritating ingredients.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has served as a good source of hydration and moisture for my face, and works well as a base for makeup.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product is packaged in a plastic pump container, which I find appealing since it is convenient as well as hygienic to use.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although a few questionable ingredients (including benzyl alcohol) are included, I have not found the product to irritate my skin at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s more a product that I turn to when my skin is feeling irritated, to help it get back into shape again.<\/span><\/p>\n

I probably will buy this product again.<\/span><\/p>\n

This day cream is part of Beautycounter’s anti-aging line of products and contains bakuchiol and other ingredients that are said to decrease the appearance of fine lines on the skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I don’t know how much my wrinkles have been helped by this particular product, I have enjoyed using it and feel that my skin has responded well to it in general.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has a light, natural, floral scent from the alpine rose and nasturnium extracts that I find to be pleasant.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also like the fact that this product is dispensed with a pump using a glass jar and a metal top since that feels much more hygienic (as well as more convenient) than dipping my fingers into a jar with a screw-on top.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, this product is really expensive for a day cream.<\/span><\/p>\n

If I were wealthier and money were no object, this one might be my first pick since I do really like it though.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is one of the products that is labeled as a night cream but that seems to work fine for me under makeup as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ingredients list includes niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate and dimethicone, as well as some ceramides.<\/span><\/p>\n

CerVe products are affordably priced and often recommended by skincare professionals such as dermatologists.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product includes a few potentially problematic ingredients, including ceteareth-20 (an emulsifier that is on Credo’s “Dirty List”); behentrimonium methosulfate (a conditioner that is more often used in hair products); phenoxyethanol (a preservative); and dimethicone (a silicone).<\/span><\/p>\n

So far, though, I don’t feel that this product has been bad for my skin at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also have found the smell of the product to be neutral and acceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n

I therefore feel that this is a viable option, especially for those who are limited in the amount that they have to spend on skincare.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a light day cream with a pretty strong natural celery scent.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has worked well for me under makeup and seems to be especially well-suited for use during the summer months, when I do not need as much hydration and when the celery smell feels a little refreshing.<\/span><\/p>\n

I don’t feel that it has irritated my skin at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve had good experiences with this cream. It feels good on my skin, works well under makeup, and has not seemed to be irritating at all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although there is a light natural floral-type scent, it is hardly noticeable and seems fine to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

It would be a little hard for me to justify buying this product on a regular basis since there are others that are much less expensive that I feel work well for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

I like this product and feel that my skin has done well with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because I have come to think that Vitamin C serums that are too strong can be slightly irritating to my skin, I am rather appreciative of the fact that this product contains an apparently lower level of Vitamin C along with some good hydrators (including niacinamide, squalane, sodium hyaluronate, and sodium acetylated hyaluronate).<\/span><\/p>\n

It is possible that I also have done well with it because it includes Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, which to my understanding means that it has some good bacteria in it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The only ingredient that EWG lists as being potentially problematic is malic acid, which is included as an exfoliator.<\/span><\/p>\n

Especially since it provides the Vitamin C benefits, I would consider buying it again.<\/span><\/p>\n

This affordably priced product from Honest is rich in hydrators, including squalane as the first ingredient (after water) and two different forms of sodium hyaluronate further down the list.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product also includes moisturizers derived from coconut and jojoba oils and glycerin, as well as a fair amount of apple fruit acid (which I suppose must be serving as a mild exfoliator).<\/span><\/p>\n

I am especially impressed by the fact that this product includes no ingredients at all that EWG believes to be of concern.<\/span><\/p>\n

I personally have found the cream to feel quite clean to me and to work very well with my skin without causing any irritation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Due to the use of all the squalane and sodium hyaluronate, this product gives my skin more of a tacky-type feeling than almost any other cream that I have tried. While I wasn’t sure how I felt about that at first, after I realized how helpful that was in terms of working well with my makeup, I started to feel quite happy about it.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have used this cream often and always have had good experiences with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fact that it performs so well while simultaneously being among the cleanest and most affordable creams that I have found is really remarkable to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have purchased several jars so far (for myself and to give to others) and am sure I will continue to buy more in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

While this product is stated as being designed for nighttime use, I have found that it works well for me during the day as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have not found it to be heavy or greasy at all, and I think that the small amount of dimethicone (silicone) as well as the hyaluronic acid in the formula help it to serve as a good base for makeup.<\/span><\/p>\n

The formula includes some glycolic acid as a chemical exfoliator, but I have not found the product to be irritating to my face at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike the Mineral Fusion moisturizer that is stated as being intended for day use, this one includes no fragrance ingredients.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although many Tatcha products are not especially suited to sensitive skin, this one is formulated with the goal of decreasing irritation as well as not causing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I think that it has worked well on my skin even when it has been in its most irritated state.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product is an unusual denim-blue color, which apparently is from natural ingredients since I do not see any artificial colorants mentioned on the ingredients list.<\/span><\/p>\n

The unusual ingredient cited by EWG as potentially problematic is tetrasodium tetracarboxymethyl naringeninchalcone, which seems to be included specifically because it is thought to have the ability to decrease skin redness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The product also contains some silicone, which is something that I would prefer not to have on my skin on a regular basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

I obtained a small sample jar of the product and used it sporadically, and I feel that my skin did fine with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The dimethicone in the product seems to help the product to function similarly to a primer when I am wearing makeup, and so that is an added benefit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether it would have continued to be good for me if I used it every day on a long-term basis, I don’t know.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a quite expensive product and so I don’t know if I ever will buy a full-size jar. I did enjoy using it though.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have not found this product to be irritating to my skin at all, and I do think that it helps my skin to recover from other irritations better than anything else that I have tried.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It also disappears quickly into my skin and creates a tacky type feeling that works well under makeup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The product smells totally neutral to me, without any essential oils or other obvious scented ingredients.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a little surprising how gentle this moisturizer is considering the several problematic ingredients (including potassium hydroxide, sodium benzoate, sodium glycolate, and sodium hydroxide) that are listed. Maybe the amounts of those used are very small.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product also includes coconut oil, which can be irritating for some people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, I have personally found this product to be terrific, to the point that if I were going to use just one day moisturizer all the time, this is the one that I would choose.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mad Hippie Face Cream ($26):<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>I found this product to be quite irritating to my skin, and a friend with mold illness and chemical sensitivities reported the same thing. In addition, I found more than a dozen reviews online from people who had experienced a similar issue. This was surprising since I have done well with other Mad Hippie products and since the ingredients list looks pretty good. EWG gives the product a 2 (green), flagging as problematic only the lime extract (4) and aloe vera (3).<\/span><\/p>\n

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer ($13):<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Although this product is rated as clean (with no problematic ingredients) by EWG, it caused my face to experience significant burning and itching. While others may have better experiences with it, I don’t feel that I can suggest that other people consider buying a product that made my face react in this way.<\/span><\/p>\n

The products are curated by Lisa Petrison,<\/strong><\/a> who has been focused on helping people to improve their health by avoiding toxicity since 2008 and who heads the Paradigm Change organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her\u00a0Living Clean in a Dirty World blog site<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0discusses a variety of topics of relevance to those who are working to pursue a more natural lifestyle with less exposure to harmful toxicity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa is the author of several books, including\u00a0A Beginner’s Guide to Mold Avoidance<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(co-written with Erik Johnson).<\/span><\/p>\n
