This description of this product on the Aveda website reads, “98% naturally-derived, aroma-free gentle cleanser for sensitive skin that removes makeup, impurities and environmental pollutants. Olive and coconut oil-derived cleansers gently help remove makeup, impurities and environmental pollutants. Certified organic baobab oil helps maintain the moisture barrier.”<\/span><\/p>\n

I have found this product to be a rather thick and rich cream cleanser that has worked well for my dry skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike most Aveda skincare products, this does not have any added fragrance. I personally think it smells fine.<\/span><\/p>\n

It does contain phenoxyethanol, which is a preservative that I seem to be able to tolerate but that some people cannot use.<\/span><\/p>\n

My skin seems to have done well with it, even when I am using it as a cleanser every day for a week or more.<\/span><\/p>\n

I do not need to use very much of this product at all to cleanse my face and the container that I bought has lasted for a long time.<\/span><\/p>\n

I suspect that I eventually will buy this again, probably during one of Aveda’s sitewide sales since it is on the expensive side.<\/span><\/p>\n

The description of this product on the Bare Minerals website reads, “A nourishing vegan cleanser that feels soothing on sensitive skin, and removes makeup and impurities without drying. Made with just 15 ingredients, it improves the look of sensitive skin over time.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the product includes some ingredients that seem to be questionable, EWG suggests that cocamidopropyl betaine (a surfactant) is not an issue when used in products that will be immediately rinsed off the eyes and that glyceryl polyacrylate is more of an issue when eye contact occurs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Phenoxyethanol is a commonly used preservative that some people do not tolerate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I personally felt that this product was okay for me and worked my way through most of a full-size container.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I didn’t have any problems with it, I doubt that I would buy it again since I have found what seem to me to be better options.<\/span><\/p>\n

I feel that this product has done a little better for me in terms of removing makeup than some cream cleansers and that it seems to have been fine on my skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

I did not notice any potentially problematic smell with this product.<\/span><\/p>\n

The description of this product on the Beautycounter website reads, “This gentle daily cleanser removes makeup and impurities without stripping away moisture. The formula, made with a blend of coconut oil and aloe vera, leaves skin feeling nourished and soothed and is perfect for sensitive skin.”<\/span><\/p>\n

I think that this is a nice basic cleanser that my skin seems to like and that is reasonably priced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It does not contain any fragrance ingredients, and the only ingredients that seem to have the potential of being problematic for many people are phenoxyethanol (a preservative that some people cannot tolerate) and coconut.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The $7 shipping charge does add to the price of the product, and so this would be a good product to order from Beautycounter when purchasing other items or during a “free shipping” sale.<\/span><\/p>\n

I suspect that eventually I will buy this product again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although EWG lists a few potentially problematic ingredients, this product seems to have been fine for me even when I used it on a regular basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

No added fragrances are used and the product smells fine to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

I worked my way through a whole container and would use it again in the future if that was what was readily available to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although this product did not cause my skin to become red or to itch, it also did not seem to be very good for my skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the first try, I really did not feel like using it again and only was able to bring myself to put it on my face a couple more times before giving up on it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The inclusion of the benzyl alcohol could be an issue for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s also possible that I could be sensitive to the aluminum in the magnesium aluminum silicate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, I wonder about the oat-based ingredients since non-organic oats tend to be very contaminated with glyphosate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Roundup and other brands of glyphosate have a strongly negative effect on the microbiome, killing off good bacteria and allowing toxin-producing fungi to thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n

In any case, although I like Bybi’s strawberry seed oil, I don’t see myself buying this cleanser again.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product is also available in Rose Cleansing Milk (with rose geranium and lavender oils), Blue Lavender Cleansing Milk (with lavender and blue chamomile oils), and Patchouli Rose (with rose geranium, lavender and patchouli oils) versions.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve tried all of these except for the Patchouli Rose version.<\/span><\/p>\n

While I’m not sure that any of them have exactly been a problem for my skin, the only one that I might buy again is the Simply Basic.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scents of the rose geranium and blue chamomile oils are not very appealing to me, and I also do not think they are very good for my skin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Simply Basic version does seem like a gentle cleanser that I feel okay about using.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, I don’t think that it does as good of a job removing makeup as some of the other products on this page, meaning that I might have to use a pre-cleanser more often if I were using it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although this product is stated by the company as being appropriate for those with dry skin, I felt like it was much more drying to my skin than any other cleanser I have used in recent years.<\/span><\/p>\n

I also felt that it was a little irritating to my eyes and therefore would be disinclined to use it to take off eye makeup.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from that, I don’t feel that it was noticeably irritating to my skin and so think that it conceivably could be an okay cleanser for those who have skin that is not as dry as mine.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ingredients list looks reasonably clean and many people with sensitive skin seem to report good experiences with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a couple of tries, I decided not to put it on my own skin any more, though.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although there are some Mad Hippie skincare products that have not worked well on my skin, this cream cleanser has been quite good for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

It feels nicely moisturizing to my skin and has been effective at removing the amount of makeup that I wear, without irritating my skin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It does have a noticeable floral-type scent (perhaps from the orchid extract?), but I have not found that to be objectionable.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ingredients list looks like it would be tolerated by most people and the price is reasonable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although I avoid carrageenan in food products, probably it’s fine when used as a thickener in a cleanser.<\/span><\/p>\n

I went through a whole bottle of this product and would consider buying it again.<\/span><\/p>\n

The only hesitation I have is that it is my experience that although sesame oil (listed as the second ingredient) is a great moisturizing agent, it also tends to go rancid fairly easily.<\/span><\/p>\n

I suggest using this product up in a timely fashion, therefore.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although this is a micellar product, it is in gel rather than liquid form and seems gentler than the other micellar products that I have tried.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It seems to do a good job of removing makeup while still leaving my skin in good shape, without the need for an additional second cleansing step.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scent is neutral and the gel consistency makes it easy to use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have really enjoyed using this product and have finished off most of a full-size bottle.<\/span><\/p>\n

This product has a pretty clean ingredients list and seems to be very popular among consumers as well as recommended by at least some dermatologists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although my skin reacted badly to the Vanicream moisturizer, I have not felt like this cleanser has caused my face to become noticeably irritated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, I still don’t feel that it has been as good for my face as some of the other cream cleansers that I have liked, probably due to the fact that it seems to be more drying than is optimal for me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Probably if I had skin that was more on the oily or normal side, I would like it more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It certainly is an affordably priced product and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is better for most people than the vast majority of cleansers on the market.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Living Clean in a Dirty World shopping website is designed to provide guidance to those seeking out products that are relatively low in toxicity and that provide generally positive user experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the skincare and makeup sections have a particular focus on products appropriate for women who are in their 40’s or beyond, the information provided may be useful for other people as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

The products are curated by Lisa Petrison,<\/strong><\/a> who has been focused on helping people to improve their health by avoiding toxicity since 2008 and who heads the Paradigm Change organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her\u00a0Living Clean in a Dirty World blog site<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0discusses a variety of topics of relevance to those who are working to pursue a more natural lifestyle with less exposure to harmful toxicity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa is the author of several books, including\u00a0A Beginner’s Guide to Mold Avoidance<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(co-written with Erik Johnson).<\/span><\/p>\n

She also runs the Paradigm Change website<\/strong><\/a> (focusing on issues related to toxic mold illness) and the Mold Avoiders Facebook group<\/strong><\/a> (designed for the discussion of all topics of interest to those pursuing the mold avoidance approach described in the “Beginner’s Guide” book).<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa was born in August 1964 and has yet to try cosmetic surgery, Botox or other cosmetic treatments requiring interactions with a physician, or beauty products containing retinoids.<\/span><\/p>\n

In her former life, Lisa worked as a business school professor, as a marketing consultant to a variety of large companies, and as a reporter covering the advertising industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

She holds a Ph.D. in marketing and social psychology from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University as well as B.S.\/M.S. degrees from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern.<\/span><\/p>\n
